Queen RANNAH ANTONETTE NIETES ALCALEN was born one rainy day in September 18 years ago in Manila, Philippines. Her mom had gone into labor 3 days earlier but it was also her Mom’s birthday. Philippine folklore considers it inauspicious for a mother to have the same birthday as her newborn because "they will be pulling at each other's luck". Luckily, on September 2, 1986 at 8:20 a.m., nothing could stop the 5 lbs 10 0z. baby girl from coming into the world. She had such gray eyes and brown hair that she was often mistaken for a daughter of a German father. Annafe, her doting mother , always had a ready answer, “ No, honey she is of pure Filipino breed, coming out of the Nietes, Alcalen, Velasco and Tordesillas lineage". That baby has since grown up to become a 5' 7-1/2" beauty.
Rannah is the daughter of Annafe Nietes, herself a former first runner-up at the Lin-ay Kang Antique 1978 (Miss Antique '78), and Ralph Alcalen of San Jose, Antique and Dao, Antique, respectively. If her name sounds quite unique, it is because it is a combination of her dad's (Ra-lph) and mom's (Anna-fe +h) names. She has a brother, Kevin and a dog named Ruby.
Rannah came to the United States in 1987 to join her parents in Florida. They lived for awhile in a cruise ship called “Emerald Seas”. Rannah was dubbed the youngest employee since she was, literally, part of the crew. In 1989, the family moved to New York. She started her pre-kinder in a Catholic school in New Jersey and was crowned “ Miss St. Aedan.” It was her first stage appearance and she was not at all smiling. The audience thought she was having tantrums but little did they know that she just happened to miss her two front teeth at that time.
Rannah attended Junior High at Roosevelt Middle School in West Orange, New Jersey where she graduated with an academic excellence award. That same year, she was modeling and working with Zazou International in Fort Lee, New Jersey. She also once landed a movie role, cast as a student cheerleader with Robert De Nero in the film “A Legend in his Mind”. Rannah can dance the hip- hop and jazz. She also plays the flute and the piano.
In 2000, the family moved to Las Vegas where she started high school at Palo Verde in Summerlin. She became News Editor of the school paper and represented the school in the National Journalism Convention held in Dallas, Texas.
In 2003, she became a member of the National Honors Society of America and Key Club. She graduated, with honors and advance diploma, from high school in 2004.
Rannah is currently taking up B.S. Biology at the University of Nevada Las Vegas . She is a recipient of the Nevada Millennium Scholarship. She is determined to be a Dermatologist. Rannah’s motto in life is, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams!” She believes that one must always do his/her best. "What you plant now, you will harvest later."
Rannah grew up in a Catholic family. Her parents taught her to be a role model and good example to her friends so "they could follow her, not the other way around".
From her parents - they say of their daughter, “We couldn’t ask for a better daughter, we have the BEST!”
Queen Rannah will be escorted by Jason Tagle.
